Beans

Beans contain large amounts of fiber and are known to help improve heart function. Doctors advise people with atherosclerosis to consume foods that contain high levels of fibers, such as beans. Beans are also known to maintain a low cholesterol level and reduce the risk of having a clogged artery. Numerous studies show that eating beans regularly can reduce the amount of LDL (bad) cholesterol.
A review of 26 high quality studies showed that diets that contain 1 serving (130 grams) of beans daily were responsible for the lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol. Studies show that diets rich in beans help regulate blood pressure, boost artery function, and make you less susceptible to type 2 diabetes. All these effects are known to reduce the risk of developing atherosclerosis.
