Foods Low in Potassium for Hyperkalemia

Peaches

A medium-sized peach contains only 200 milligrams of potassium. This fruit is known for supporting kidney health, heart health, and controlling blood pressure levels. Peaches are a good replacement for other high potassium fruits like mangoes, bananas, or papayas.  Peaches are rich in vitamins A to K and contain several minerals, including iron, folate, and phosphorus.

It is best to avoid high potassium foods like bananas, oranges, cantaloupe, honeydew, apricots, and grapefruit. These fruits have nutritional benefits but can worsen symptoms of hyperkalemia if consumed in excess. Dried fruits, such as prunes, raisins, and dates, are also high in potassium and can increase risks of health complications.
