What Are The Most Common Foods That Cause Gout

Organ Meats

Generally, organ meats contain high levels of purine. Hence, it’s essential to avoid them. When organ meats are eaten, it increases uric acid levels in the blood, which causes gout symptoms when it builds up in the joints. Examples of common organ meats are kidneys, sweetbreads, liver, and brain. Additionally, they are high in saturated fats and cholesterol. For this reason, it may also be inadvisable for individuals struggling with heart disease to consume them.

Red Meat

Meats have varying levels of purine content in them. Some types of meats contain high levels of purine, while some only contain moderate levels. Generally, white meats are better than red meats. Hence, servings of beef, pork, and lamb should be limited. Some researchers state that high quantities of red meats are linked to higher cancer levels (colorectal cancer).
