Is Medicare Mandatory?

What Happens To People With Job-Based Health Plans?

Most people who get health insurance from their employer or through their spouse’s employer can decide to delay their enrollment into Medicare insurance. Some of them usually enroll for Medicare part A only. This delay is because the insurance issued to them by their employer is the primary payer.

The primary payer is the one that pays first for the healthcare you receive while the secondary payer pays for expenses the primary payer could not cover. Your employer’s health plan automatically becomes the primary payer if there are more than 20 employees in the company.

People with job-based insurance have to decide if they want to enroll for Medicare insurance.
