Medicare For Spouses

Medicare If You Are Widowed or Divorced

In any case where you do not qualify for free Medicare Part A based on your own work history, you can qualify based on your spouse’s work history, even if you are widowed or divorced.

If you are divorced, you must have been married to your partner for at least 10 full years. Once you are 65 years, you are eligible for free Medicare Part A [4] through your former spouse, as long as your partner worked for 10 years at least, and paid for Medicare taxes during that time.

Also, you can apply for any of the plans online or through your local social security office beginning three more before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and also three months after your birth month.

However, you still have to pay for premium plans to enjoy other benefits of Medicare, as described above.
