Signs And Symptoms of TMJ Disorders

Pain in the ear

Pain, clogging, or ringing in the ears [5] can be a sign of temporomandibular joint disorder. This is a common symptom of this condition because the joint is located near the auditory canal. Hence, a misalignment or imbalance can cause inflammation, nerve irritation, loss of hearing, and ringing in the ears, known as tinnitus. This symptom is common with ear infections, so you may be unable to self-diagnose the disorder. Lifestyle habits like exercises and relaxation techniques may improve this symptom.

Malocclusion

Malocclusion is the improper position of the teeth when the jaw is shut. Temporomandibular disorder can cause malocclusion because of the lack of control of the jaw and facial muscles. The patient may experience mouth breathing, speech difficulties, and abnormal face appearance.
