The labor nurse serves as the main link to the facility where the woman is giving birth. In most cases, women have the same nurse throughout the process of labor or birth. However, they can see more than one nurse due to shifts or multiple patients. The labor nurse helps to communicate with the doctor or midwife. They also inform the doctor or midwife about every progress and communicate any request the you have to the doctor. Labor nurses are always present at the birth process to help the doctor and others in the room. The labor nurse is always responsible for blood work, paperwork, monitoring, vaginal exams and other important tests. Labor nurse don’t have the qualification to spend a lot of time physically comforting you, but they help to suggest things to do to give you comfort (posture or drugs).
