Temazepam Oral: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions & More

Uses of temazepam

Temazepam is used to treat a sleep condition known as insomnia [1]. It is administered to help people fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer and reduce how often you wake up in the night, so you can have a better night’s rest.

Temazepam is a member of the class of drugs called benzodiazepines. It works on the brain to produce a calming effect. This drug should be used for a short period (one to two weeks or less) if insomnia persists, then you should see a doctor to recommend other treatments.

Temazepam works by elevating the action of a neurotransmitter in the body called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This neurotransmitter sends signals through the nervous system that helps to improve sleep. When you take temazepam, the effects of GABA [2] are increased in the body.
