Sugar Beets

Studies show that sugar beets account for about 35% of the nearly 130 million metric tons of sugar produced globally per year. The remaining percent come from sugar cane. The sugar beets are then used to produce sucrose. They face serious competition from weeds, so a glyphosate version was produced. The glyphosate version helps farmers dump Roundup on the fields of sugar beets to destroy weeds without harming the sugar beets. The plants are also regularly coated with toxic chemicals during their development, making them more harmful for consumption. You can avoid sugar beets by staying away from products that contain sucrose (sugar), or any product that does not have specific sweetness, such as raw honey or organic agave.
